WILLIAM S. WINDERConfederate captain and Assistant adjutant general, on the staff of his father, Gen. John H. Winder. William S. Winder was responsible for the location and construction of the notorious Confederate prison camp at Andersonville. Rare, fine content war-date partly-printed D.S., 1p. Folio, June 12, 1863, a "LIST OF PRISONERS" sent from Camp Holmes to "Genl. Winder at Richmond" listing 26 Confederate soldiers, all of whom had deserted (one three times!), their regiments, date and place of arrest, charges, and expenses. At bottom, Winder writes: "Approved By order Genl Winder W. S. Winder A.G.". Moderate soiling and a few very light dampstains, else very good.
