Sale 38 Lot 186

WADE HAMPTON (1819 - 1902) Confederate lieutenant general of cavalry whose daring exploits at Antietam, Gettysburg, and Petersburg won him fame in both North and South. Fine association A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., [Washington?, ca. 1880] to his old adversary, Union Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, then a fellow senator. In part: "...Go look at the enclosed papers & see if you can join in the recommendation of Capt Leslie. I shall be glad to do so if some of our friends on the other side can...". Very good.
Estimate $ 400-500
