UNION AND CONFEDERATE GENERALS KILLED IN ACTION A most unusual document signed by army officers who would later fight on opposite sides in the Civil War, and both of whom would die during the war as a result of battle, 1p. folio, "Camp Oseyos [?], W.T.", July 31, 1859, a "Roll of Commissioned Officers and Privates employed on extra duty as Mechanics and Laborers" with the sums due to them, signed at bottom by JAMES J. ARCHER (1817-1864) Confederate brigadier general and colonel of the 5th Texas in Hood's Brigade who fought at Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where he was captured. His health broke and death followed after the battle of Peeble's Farm. Also signed by CHARLES G. HARKER (1837 - 1864) Union brigadier general killed in action while leading a charge at Kennesaw Mountain. Fine condition. A rare pairing of doomed generals from both sides of the Civil War.
