THEODORE J. VAN KIRK Interesting signed pen and ink drawing executed on a 8 1/2" x 11"" sheet, titled "Air Escape Plan", showing the escape plan for the Aug. 6, 1945 atomic mission at Hiroshima. Van Kirk draws a series of concentric circles around the primary target of Hiroshima, marks the target of the bomb, and shows the 150 degree turn of the Enola Gay and its location in relation to the first and second sets of shock waves. Van Kirk adds pencil notation throughout the piece: "Altitude: 30060 ft. True air speed - 245 mph. Bomb detonates about 1800 ft above Hiroshima 43 sec after release Bank of turns 600 degrees...", and more. He also marks the bomb away spot and draws the first and second bomb shock waves, as well as the position another plane, which he dubs "Great Artist - Insurance Plane". Signed at bottom in pencil adding "Navigator - Enola Gay Hiroshima 6 Aug. 1945". Fine condition .
