THE "MONROE BLUES" Fine pair of items for the "Monroe Blues", a military group which honored the memory of President James Monroe. Includes a clay-coated card, 5" x 3 1/2", picturing two armed soldiers standing at attention before a fort and a tent, more soldiers in formation in background, with an eagle above a portrait of Monroe and a banner reading "ANNUAL BALL MONROE BLUES". Fine condition. Sold with a blank printed invitation to a ball held by the organization at the "Apollo", Dec. 21, 1840, addressed on verso to Brig. Gen. Wm. L. Morris. Two pieces.
