TAKING LAND FROM AN INDIAN CHIEF Good content A.L.S. 4pp. 4to., Chicago, Jan. 5, 1836 in which "E. J. Langham" writes another man. In part: "...In relation to ab be te ke zhic's reservation. I enclose to you a copy of a letter from the Survey on General at St. Louis...he could not submit it [the deed] to the President because it did not describe the land by its sectional numbers...I then examined the Treaty of Tippecanoe, at which the reserve was made, and found that the President's signature to the deed was not required...title was good without it...". Very good. By the Treaty of the Tippecanoe, October 26, 1832, between the United States and the Chiefs of the Pottawattamie Indians, extensive reservations belonging to the Indians were ceded to the government and smaller reservations returned to certain chiefs and their bands.
