SOUTH CAROLINIANS FLOCK TO THE ARMY Fine content contemporary extract of a report, likely complete, unsigned, 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d., likely Columbia, 1862] showing the enormous contribution of manpower South Carolina had made to the war effort, despite official reports to the contrary. In part: "...Prior to the first Conscription Act of Congress...the quota of the State under the call from the Secretary of War was 18,000 n.e.: So. Ca. troops then in the field for the War Excess over Quota 406. As a sufficient refutation to the charge that the provisions of that Act calling for all arms bearing men between 18 and 35 years of age were not faithfully complied with, it is only necessary to state that...out of a total white population of 304000 souls, this state had then in Confederate service for the War 45,000 or nearly one sixth of the whole number...". A few tears at top margin, away from text, else very good.
Estimate $ 250-350
