SAMUEL L. CLEMENS(1835 - 1910) "Mark Twain", American author of such classics as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. A.L.S. "S. L. Clemens" 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], "Saturday", on black-bordered mourning letterhead to Mrs. Skrine, the wife of author Francis Henry Skrine. In part: "...Please, with your permission we will make it Thursday at which house I shall be there to enjoy my privileges...". Skrine (1847 - 1933) an Indian civil servant, was the co-author of the volume The Heart of Asia. The two were correspondents, possibly having met in India when Clemens visited there in 1895. Mounting strip to verso, light central fold, very good.
