RICHARD M. NIXON, (1913 - 1994) Thirty-seventh President of the United States who led during the Vietnam War, re-opened diplomatic ties with China and the U.S.S.R., resigned his office due to the Watergate scandal. T.L.S. 1p., 8vo, written on "Office of the Vice President" letterhead, Washington, Mar. 29, 1956, to Mr. Edgar Poe, Washington Bureau Chief for the New Orleans-based Times-Picayune. In part: "...I appreciated your letter of March 23, with which you enclosed an editorial from your 'favorite newspaper.' I certainly got an extra chuckle or two out of the way your writer poked a little fun at some of the 'soothsayers'... ". Boldly signed "Dick Nixon" in blue ink. Slight creasing on top right corner, minor folds, very good.
