PENNSYLVANIA LAND ARCHIVE A good content archive of approximately 35 documents and letters concerning a land title in Pennsylvania. Though much of the correspondence dates from the mid nineteenth century to the early twentieth, there are three early documents of note in the collection including: JOHN PENN (1699-1746) and THOMAS PENN (1702-1775), manuscript D.S. 1p. oblong folio on parchment, Philadelphia, Sept. 1, 1735, a deed granted to William Rawle for land granted under "...a certain patent under the hands of William Markham, Samuel Carpenter and John Goodson...in...1690 a Lot of Land or Ground was granted to Robert Turner of the City (then called the Town) of Philadelphia Situate on and before the Bank of Delaware River in the said City..."; JOHN PENN (1729-1795) last colonial governor of Pennsylvania and grandson of William Penn, manuscript D.S. "John Penn" 1p. oblong folio on parchment, Philadelphia, May 4, 1766, appointing Henry Hale Graham clerk of Chester County. Folds, moderate foxing throughout and light cockling; JAMES HAMILTON (1710-1783) Colonial governor of Pennsylvania, manuscript D.S. "James Hamilton" 1p. large oblong folio on parchment, Philadelphia Apr. 27, 1750, a deed for 250 acres of land in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, with green silk seal ribbon attached, but missing seal. These documents were amassed as part of a title search done in the early 20th century and the related correspondence, though too detailed and involved to summarize here, would be of interest to any scholar. Usual folds, light soiling, overall very good condition.
