OWEN LOVEJOY(1811 - 1864) American lawyer and congressman. An abolitionist, he was a "conductor" in the Underground Railroad. Uncommon A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Washington, Jan. 8, 1859, to T. H. Cherney [?], in part: "...Your favor of the 5th has just come to hand. I recollected the gathering of the '48' very distinctly. If the claim of which you speak comes under my notice, I will give it my attention...". Moderate folds toned thereon and repaired with tape on verso, loss at top right corner, good condition.
