MEET THE PRESS Fine group of 31 T.L.S's relative to Meet the Press, the weekly NBC American news/interview program and the longest-running show in television history, making its debut on Nov. 6, 1947. The letters are from Governors, Senators etc., each written to pioneering journalist Martha Rountree about appearances on Meet the Press. Signatories include: JACOB JAVITS, JESSE HELMS, AVERILL HARRIMAN, HERMAN TALMADGE, STUART SYMINGTON, ESTES KEFAUVER, RUSSELL B. LONG and JOHN SPARKMAN, among others, with some duplication. Martha Rountree (1911 1999) was a broadcast journalist and the creator and first moderator of a public-affairs program, first on radio as The American Mercury from October 5, 1945, and as Meet the Press on the NBC television network from November 6, 1947. She has been the only female moderator in the over-six-decade history of the show. Very good or better, a nice dealer's lot.
Estimate $ 200-300
