LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI(1882 - 1977) Influential, oft controversial classical conductor, his progressive approach and flamboyant presence on the concert stage added to his celebrity. Lot of 16 typed letters signed variously "Leopold", "Leopold Stokowski" and initials "LS", with two additional letters signed by his secretary, each on his personal letterhead, 1p., 8" x 5 1/2", written from 1962-1968, and addressed to American composer and conductor Phillip Lambro, discussing music and mentioning Beethoven, Rossini, Verdi, as well as concert performances. In very small part: "...[Nov. 11, 1968]: I am glad your Four Songs will be performed in Poland...[Oct. 24, 1962]: Thank you for your tape of your DANCE BARBARO...When you have completed the score for your TWO PICTURES, I will try to suggest a seating depends on the stage and the acoustics of the hall...[Feb. 5, 1965]: Good news on the new concert hall having such good acoustic...[Nov. 19, 1963]: I suggest reversing horns so that first horn is on the right, and reversing trumpet so that first trumpet will be next to first trombone...[Mar. 13, 1964]:We shall do exactly as you suggest in MIRAFLORS...[Mar. 19, 1963]: Thank you for all the beautiful piano music of Beethoven...[Apr. 15, 1963]: Thank you for the study score of Schoenberg's KAMMERSYMPHONIE...".
