KENTUCKY VOLUNTEER IS GUILTY OF RAPE Printed D.S., 2pp. 8vo., Washington, July 6, 1864, the minutes of the General Court Martial, Orders No. 193, concerning Pvt. Charles C. Hunter of the 7th Kentucky Cavalry, accused of rape after entering a lady's residence, binding and gagging her with a leather strap, and "brutally ravish[ing] her person...". Hunter was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in a federal penitentiary. Signed at conclusion by Bvt. Maj. Gen. EDWARD D. TOWNSEND. File holes, else very good. Hunter got off easy - most such criminals on either side of the conflict received death sentences.
