JOSEPH HOOKER(1814 - 1879) Union major general who commanded the Army of the Potomac only to be defeated at the hands of Stonewall Jackson at Chancellorsville. Fine association D.S., 1p. 12mo., a New York Mail Steamship Company ticket issued to ex-Confederate Capt. Armand N. T. Beauregard, brother of Gen. Pierre G. T. Beauregard, giving him passage from New York to New Orleans on a vessel sailing on Aug. 5, 1865. On the verso, Hooker signs an endorsement at his headquarters in New York on Aug. 6, 1865. In part: "...Captain Beauregard was detained in this City by my order...I therefore request that his passage money may be refunded or passage given him in another steamer...". Folds with some light toning thereat, else boldly signed and very good.
