JOHN FOSTER DULLES(1888 - 1959) Secretary of State under Eisenhower who promoted "brinksmanship" and active intervention against communism. Fine A.Q.S. penned on a small blue sheet, in full: "Peace is not achieved by stagnation but by creation Aug. 10, 1948 John Foster Dulles". Mounting traces to verso, else very good. Along with WILLIAM PAULDING, JR., partly-printed D.S. 1p. 8vo., a sight draft ordering payment of $100.00 to "Stagg & Herring", New York, Dec. 15, 1828. Cut cancel through middle does not affect. Additionally, there is WILLIAM M. BATES, a partly-printed D.S. 1p. oblong 12mo., a check drawn on Riggs National Bank, Washington, Feb. 11, 1905, ordering a $5.00 payment to Ebbitt House. Punch cancels throughout, lightly affecting signature. Overall very good condition, three pieces.
