Sale 38 Lot 721

JOHN F. KENNEDYEarly, fine content T.L.S. as Congressman with unusual variant of his signature "Jack Kennedy", 1p. 4to., on official Congress letterhead to William Kelly. Kennedy responds to Kelly's request for copies of the Taft-Ellender-Wagner Housing Act and the Taft-Hartley Labor Bill, then being debated in Congress, in part: "...I am enclosing, herewith, the bills you desire. As you know, the Taft-Hartley Labor Bill is still in conference, and must be returned to the House and the Senate for further action. Thanks for your kind remarks, Billy. Coming from you, they are doubly appreciated...". Boldly signed in black ink. Beneath Kennedy's signature is an additional holograph postscript in black ink: "Billy: the T.E.W. bill is complex- Am getting some digests made up and will send them to you...". The Taft-Ellender-Wagner Housing Bill did eventually pass in highly-amended form, providing funds for research on affordable building materials, and amended power given to unions by the 1935 Wagner Act, greatly restricting union and labor activities. Two punch holes at top edge, moderate water stain affecting bottom right corner which does not affect signature, overall very good condition.
Estimate $ 1,000-1,200
