JOHN F. KENNEDY(1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. Fine content T.L.S. "John Kennedy" as Senator, 1p., 4to., Washington, to Mrs. A.E. Cassidy, Chairman, Mass. State Fed. of Women's Clubs. In part: "...thank you for your recent letter on behalf of the members of your organization with respect to my support of the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution. I think that there can be little doubt in your mind that I most emphatically favor non-discriminatory treatment of women, i.e. equal opportunity to exercise their rights as human beings. There is still, I humbly acknowledge, some question in my mind as to the most appropriate method of insuring real equality for women. For this reason I am reserving my position in the matter at least until such time as the proposed amendment can be thoroughly explored by the Judiciary Committee and I have had more time to consider the issue...I know you will understand that my position on the question is prompted by a sincere concern for the welfare of women...". Folds, else very good.
Estimate $ 2,000-4,000
