JOHN ECHOLS(1823 - 1896) Confederate brigadier general who served with Jackson and Loring, later succeeding Loring as commander of the Army of Southwest Virginia. Rare ware-date D.S. "Jnl: Echols Brig. Gen. &c.", 1p. oblong legal folio, [Whyteville, Va., Mar. 1865], a manuscript "Report of Persons employed at Wytheville Virginia..." listing four men, their term of service, compensation, etc. Countersigned by Major ISAAC SHELBY, JR., likely the son of the noted Kentucky Revolutionary War officer. very good.
