Sale 38 Lot 538

(1735 - 1826) Second President of the United States and a drafter of the Declaration of Independence, which he also signed. He later joined Franklin and Jay to negotiate peace with Great Britain. Partial D.S. "John Adams" as President, 8" x 5", [Washington], 1800, the center portion of a four-language ship's paper, boldly signed, also signed by JOHN MARSHALL (1755-1835), Supreme Court Chief Justice and the principal founder of the American system of constitutional law, including the doctrine of judicial review, and by BENJAMIN LINCOLN (1733-1810), American Revolution major general who commanded an army in the south, captured at Charleston. Lincoln was also Secretary of War from 1781-1783. The paper is quite browned yet the signatures remain very gold, and all could be separated for individual display.
