Sale 38 Lot 84

JAMES WADSWORTH(1730 - 1817) Major general of Connecticut militia who defended the Connecticut coast against attacks by Benedict Arnold, later a Continental Congressman. A set of three manuscript D.S. each bearing the endorsing signature of Wadsworth as town clerk of Durham, Conn and date between 1766 and 1768 concerning the affairs of Ebenezer and Lemuel Garnsey of Durham. The first, a manuscript D.S. 1p. 8vo., Durham, Feb. 24, 1766 is a promissory note for a deed of sale. The second, a D.S., 1p. legal folio Durham, Feb. 15 1768 is signed by Wadsworth as justice of the peace and again as town clerk. The third, a D.S. 1p. legal folio, Durham, Feb. 16, 1768, is signed twice in a similar manner. All three bear the expected folds, some with partial separations, light toning, marginal wear, else very good. Together, three pieces.
