JAMES K. POLK (1795 - 1849) Eleventh President of the United States who led the country during the Mexican-American War, and secured the territories of Oregon and Washington. Fine content partly-printed D.S. "James K. Polk" as President, 1p. folio on vellum, Washington, June 24, 1848, the appointment of future Union general Jefferson C. Davis as a "Second Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Artillery" Countersigned by Secretary of War WILLIAM MARCY. A very nice dark imprint with bold signatures and engravings. Usual folds, light cockling, otherwise fine condition.
