JAMES JONES (1921 - 1977) American author of the highly acclaimed war novel From Here to Eternity, for which he won the National Book Award in 1952. A great grouping of personal items once belonging to Jones, including five playing cards in a small frame, three threes and two fours, which were dealt to Jones in that order in a stud poker game on Feb. 12, 1971. Jones gleefully signed each card, as did CIEE Director JACK EGLE. According to the note framed with the cards, Jones won fifty francs on the hand! Also included is a 1 1/2" wide brown leather belt hand-made for Jones and bearing an embossed facsimile of his signature, various Olympic scenes, a Canadian flag, and a rectangular pewter buckle bearing the U.S. Olympic logo and the year "1976", a printed proclamation issued to Jones by Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen honoring the naming of "Eternity Hall" after Jones' famous book, and a press kit for the 1995 release of his book WWII which includes various photos, one of which shows Jones, and a press release. Overall very good.
