INDIAN AGENT'S ACCOUNTS OF SIOUX "DEPREDATIONS" A great Indian War-era United States Indian Agent's letter, 1p. 4to., in ink by Charles H. Bartow, being a rare printed "Office of UNITED STATES INDIAN AGENT" letterhead, Crow Agency, Montana, March 5, 1879. In part: "...You must not worry over any newspaper reports of Indian depredations. There is only one band of Sitting Bull's warriors on Glendive Creek and [Gen. Nelson] Miles sent three companies from Ft. Custer last week to meet them. There is no probability of their reaching this Post...if they should we could muster too strong a force for them to even think of making an attack on the agency. We have now about 800 Crow warriors camped around the stockade...the Sioux on Glendive were only a hunting party. I am very busy and must close...". Seldom seen in the marketplace, professionally repaired in the upper left hand corner, else fine.
Estimate $ 400-600
