Sale 38 Lot 162

HOWELL COBB(1815 - 1868) American politician, congressman, and Secretary of the Treasury (1857-60). He resigned from the Treasury in December of 1860 citing that his home state of Georgia (then about to secede from the Union) was in need of his services. Although the Confederate Congress appointed him brigadier-general, and was subsequently promoted to major-general, he took little part in military action. Rare war-date D.S. adding rank as major general, 1p. small folio, Atlanta, Oct. 1, 1863, a Return for Forage boldly signed twice at bottom. Light toning, else very good.
Estimate $ 400-500
