HARRY S. TRUMAN Good content T.L.S. with holograph postscript on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Independence, Jan. 14, 1959 to Harold Slater of the St. Joseph [Mo.] News-Press. Truman thanks his friend for sending an editorial on Stuart Symington, adding: "...As for the 1960 nomination, I'm not for anyone yet...". In his postscript, Truman adds: "Hope you'll like my latest NANA article". Folds, else fine. Native Missourian Symington ran in the 1960 presidential election and won Truman's backing, but eventually lost the nomination to Sen. John F. Kennedy. In the presidential race, it was only with great hesitation and trepidation that Truman supported his party's candidate.
