Sale 38 Lot 262

GOUVERNEUR K. WARREN (1830 - 1882) Union major general who fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg, and at Gettysburg, where he is credited with saving the Union left flank from being rolled up by a Confederate attack on Little Round Top. Scarce signed CDV photograph, a three-quarter length standing pose showing the general with one hand tucked into his coat, signed at bottom: "Very Respectfully, G. K. Warren". Backstamp on verso largely lost when album was removed from a previous mount, leaving only partial name: "BENDA...". Signature a bit uneven, a few very faint foxed spots and a tiny pinhole at top, otherwise very good.
Estimate $ 700-900
