Sale 38 Lot 422

A pre-Civil War wagon grease bucket, 11" tall and 6" diameter, a hollowed-out section of a tree with fitted cap and leather carrying handle, a style typically used by homesteaders travelling West. This particular example was a Gettysburg battlefield "pick-up", most likely originally Confederate as the Union army was issued iron canisters. Obtained from the John Geiselman Collection initiated in the 1920's by noted collector John Geiselman who took great pains to document his finds. Obtained from highly-respected Gettysburg relic dealers, The Horse Soldier, who had purchased the collection from a local family.
Estimate $ 400-500
