GEORGE V(1865 - 1936) King of England, son of Edward VII and husband of Mary of Teck who led England through the dark days of World War I and in the agreement with the Irish Free State. Superb and rare manuscript D.S. on official mourning stationery embossed with ornate royal seal in black on top-center of recto, 3pp., legal folio, London, June 20, 1910, to Hernando Siles, then-President of the Republic of Bolivia, announcing the death of George's father, King Edward VII. In part: "...We announce to you the decease of our most Honoured and beloved Father, His Majesty King Edward VII of Great Britain...whom it pleased God to call from this world on the evening of the sixth ultimo at a quarter to twelve o'clock, in the Tenth Year of His Reign...". Boldly signed "George R.I." in black ink. During World War I and in an anti-Kaiser sentiment, George V abandoned his family's traditional Germanic titles and crest, replacing them with Windsor, the current Royal House of the United Kingdom. Pin holes and two punch holes at black left edge, minor folds, overall very good condition.
Estimate $ 4,000-6,000
