GEORGE IV(1762 - 1830) King of England who became Prince Regent when George III became permanently deranged. Fine content manuscript D.S. "George R" 6pp. legal folio, Windsor, Mar. 9, 1824, to the Chancellor of Great Britain, John Lord Eldon, authorizing him to affix the seal of Great Britain to " Instrument bearing date with these Presents...containing a Full Power to Our Right Trusty and Well beloved Councillor Sir Benjamin Bloomfield...authorizing and empowering him to negotiate, and conclude...on the Part of our Good Brother The King of Sweden and Norway [Charles XIV, John, Napoleon's former aide Marshal Bernadotte], a Treaty for the prevention of any Traffick in Slaves on the part of Our respective Subjects...". One of the great causes George IV championed was the suppression of the African slave trade. In 1824, he signed the Slave Trade Act, which made trafficking in slaves a criminal offense, equivalent to piracy, and punishable by execution. Intact blind-embossed seat on first page, bound with silk, overall very good condition.
