FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR Fine content A.L.S. "J: Bruyn", 1p. 8vo., "Bruynswick", Mar. 28, 1760 to future Revolutionary War Brigadier General JAMES CLINTON, docketed by him on integral address leaf. In part: "...Capt. Clinton. Sir. As his Honour the Lieut Governor hath Put up blank warrants to be filled up by me for the Officers to Go out of our Regiment on the ensuing Campaign, I shall offer you the Captains Warrant if you will accept it, and desire your answer as soon as possible that the raising of Men may not be delayed and in case you should not accept of it I should be glad to have the recommendation of the principal gentleman of your part for a proper person to be nominated for a Captain of Lieutenant in your part...". Splits at folds repaired with archival tape on verso, otherwise good condition. Two years earlier the 25-year-old James Clinton had served with his father, Lt. Col. Charles Clinton, in Bradstreet's capture of Fort Frontenac.
