Sale 38 Lot 225

FRANCIS W. PICKENS (1805 - 1869) Confederate Governor of South Carolina who ordered the bombardment of Fort Sumter. Important, fine association A.L.S. signed twice, 1p. 4to., [Columbia?], June 2, 1860, in part: "...Colonel Bee & Maj. Evans will muster in the Regts. as regts. With their Regimental organizations if they have 10 companies, and if below strength & still present five companies or more then they will muster them in for the present as a Battalion and if under five companies they will be recd. As companies - I wish this to think [?]over so as to save them for the Confederate Service as they are armed, & for the State to save expense...". This appears to be a reference to Bee's first command! Very good.
Estimate $ 600-800
