Sale 38 Lot 731H

"FAN MAIL" WRITTEN TO JACK RUBYA fine grouping of twelve cards and letters, most with envelopes and all supportive, written to Jack Ruby and his attorney Tom Howard in the days immediately following his shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald. A fine gauge of a public thirsting for revenge following Kennedy's murder, reading in part: "...Thanks for a job well done! I think you righted a grave wrong. Enclosed is a check [present] for two dollars for a deed well done...The police should shake your hand and send you home. I don't think much of a jury that would convict you...Congratulations on the fine job you did by killing Oswald...that no one else had the guts to do...if anything you should be decorated...anyone who convicts you should be shipped off to Cuba with Fidel Castro and his kind..." Other letters are yet more graphic, suggesting that it would have been better to have had Oswald dragged through the streets by Kennedy's car or be whipped and tortured, that the Dallas police be blamed for Oswald's death, and so on. Good bed-time reading, overall very good.
Estimate $ 300-500
