EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D. (1890-1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Fine association, fine content T.L.S. "D.E." with initialed holograph postscript "D" on his Gettysburg letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Gettysburg, Nov. 25, 1966 to Raymond Bliss, Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Ike offers advice to his party's leader: "...We should forswear starting any personal 'booms' during '67, at least not until Christmas...we drop all hyphenated adjectives in describing the political basis of our Party...hold a luncheon...invite Nixon, Romney, Percy, Reagan, Rockefeller, Hatfield...purpose of you and me to urge upon prospective aspirants the need for prospective aspirants the need for speaking of all the others only in favorable terms...discuss in a very dispassionate way...the kind of measures that all of us could take to avoid divisive tactics...All of this may be completely cockeyed...". Ike adds in his postscript: "Before signing this I talked to you on the phone. But I am sending it along as an 'aide memoire'". D.". Very good.
