DWIGHT D. EISENHOWERFine association T.L.S. "D.D.E." on his Gettysburg monogram letterhead, 1p. 4to., Walter Reed Army Hospital, June 3, 1968 to Raymond Bliss, Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Ike sends his thanks for a bouquet of "Mamie carnations" that Reed has sent to him as he recuperates from a heart attack, adding that his doctors seem pleased with his progress. Sold with a letter from First Lady MAMIE EISENHOWER, on her letterhead, 1p. 4to., Gettysburg, Apr. 12, 1969, also to Bliss, sent two weeks after her husband's death. Mamie offers thanks for condolences offered, adding in a holograph postscript: "How happy I am that 'Ike' lived to see victory for the 'grand old party'". She of course refers to Nixon's crushing defeat of George McGovern in the November, 1968 elections. Two pieces.
