Superb association signed book, his memoir Waging Peace 1956-1961, Doubleday & Co., New York, 1965, first edition no. 65/1,434. boldly signed in full in black ink opposite the limitation page. This book was presented to Dr. Perrin Long who served as Eisenhower's theater medical consultant, most importantly during the Sicilian campaign. It was Long whom Eisenhower ordered to investigate Gen. George Patton's notorious "slapping" incident and prepare an "eyes only" report for Eisenhower's review (which ultimately led to Patton's temporary removal from command). The book is accompanied by a T.L.S. from Ellis D. "Slats" Slater, president of Frankfort Distilleries and a member of "The Gang", Ike's golf buddies at Augusta and staunch, long-time political and financial supporters. Slater notes: "...General Ike wanted to inscribe it [the book] to you as he had the earlier one ... But before it got there he had his heart attack. However it has his personal signature ... ". Slipcase is foxed a bit but the book and signature are flawless.
