Superb association signed book, his memoir Mandate for Change 1953-1956, Doubleday & Co., New York, 1963, first edition no. 65/1,434, boldly inscribed and signed twice. Beneath the limitation statement Eisenhower writes: "For General Perrin H. Long with best wishes from an old associate of his in the Mediterranean Theater of World War II Dwight D. Eisenhower 1963" with an additional full signature on the facing page. Dr. Perrin H. Long served as Eisenhower's theater medical consultant, most importantly during the Sicilian campaign. It was Long whom Eisenhower ordered to investigate Gen. George Patton's notorious "slapping" incident and prepare an "eyes only " report for Eisenhower's review (which ultimately led to Patton's temporary removal from command). The book is accompanied by a T.L.S. from Ellis D. "Slats" Slater, president of Frankfort Distilleries and a member of "The Gang", Ike's golf buddies at Augusta and staunch, long-time political and financial supporters. Slater notes: " comes to you from an old friend whose feelings for you deepen as the years go by...". Paperclip stain at top margin of limitation page, slipcase is a bit foxed but the book, inscription and signatures are near flawless.
Estimate $ 800-1,200
