CIVIL WAR PENSION OFFICER'S NOTEBOOK A rare, fact-filled Civil War Pension Officer's notebook, approx. 148pp. of which abt. 135 are pension records, 1865-75[?], one entry per page, compiled by an unnamed army officer. The notebook concerns itself largely with New Jersey soldiers, most from the 4th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 34th and 40th Infantry Regts., also the 1st and 2nd N.J. Cav'y, the 2nd Balt. Regy. and the 23rd Wisc., and contains a wealth of information on each soldier. Generally included, where applicable, is the soldier's name, date and place of enlistment, bounty paid, date and place of death, prisons where he may have been held, date of birth, marital status, date of application and relationship of applicant, and so on. Most of the applications were for soldiers killed in action and for those who died while held prisoner. Battles mentioned are Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, and Cold Harbor, and prisons mentioned include Andersonville, Libby, Sumter, Danville and Florence. Very good. An uncommon item with great research potential.
Estimate $ 2,000-3,000
