CIVIL WAR MEDICAL ORDERLY'S ARCHIVE
A fine grouping of material from Civil War medical orderly Waldo B. Sampson of the 44th Mass. Infantry. Included is an 8" x 35" document headed: "List of Patients Div. V Stanley General Hospital Newberne N.C. Waldo B. Sampson", listing 86 patients by name adding their rank, company, regiment, state, date admitted, and a notation as to whether they died or were discharged. The document has a few ink-eroded letters at top, otherwise very good. Also present is Sampson's tattered leather wallet; a calling card holder with note reading: "Taken from the house of a Rebel Doctor at Williamston", Stanley's well-worn pass signed by Surgeon-in-Charge C. A, Caryell[?] allowing Sampson, an attendant in this hospital", to move "about town until further orders"; and four Adams Express receipts for boxes and parcels sent by Adams to family members in Massachusetts. Interesting and should be researched.
Estimate $ 400-500
