CHARLES M. DUKE JR.(b. 1935) American astronaut who piloted the LEM on the Apollo 16 mission. Neat typed D.S. 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], titled "Man's First Words After Landing on the Moon", in part: "...On June 20, 1969, at 1:47 pm EDT, the Lunar Module 'Eagle' carrying Armstrong and Aldrin separated from the Command Module 'Columbia'...First words were: Edwin E. 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr., man's first 2 words after landing on the moon: "Contact light". Neil Armstrong: 'Shutdown" - 'Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed' Charles Duke, the Capcom in Houston, replied with the first words sent from earth to the moon: 'Roger, Tranquility. We copy you on the ground. You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We are breathing again. Neil Armstrong: 'Houston, that may have seemed like a very long final phase...Charlie Duke...'Roger, we copy. It was beautiful from here...". Boldly signed at conclusion. Fine condition, a neat commemorative piece.
