Sale 38 Lot 811

CHARLES LEE (1758 - 1815) Attorney General under Washington and John Adams, and a close personal friend of Washington as well. Partly-printed D.S. "Charles Lee" 1p. 8vo., [Spotsylvania], June 7, 1781, with some 26 lines filled in and signed as a practicing prosecuting attorney as representing one Richard Conway, who files a complaint against William Watt and David Galloway for failure to honor a promissory note backed by monies and crop tobacco. Dockets and notes in Lee's hand on verso indicate that the complaint was not dismissed until 1789! Chipping and wear to margins cost no text, evenly toned, usual folds, overall good condition.
