CHARLES GOODNIGHT(1836 - 1929) American frontier cattleman whose route blazed from the Brazos to New Mexico took his name, later teamed-up with John Chisum and eventually owned 100,000 cattle. Most remembered for preserving the last group of buffalo to escape hunters. Rare L.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Goodnight, TX, Dec. 11, 1922, on letterhead head of The Goodnight Ranch, showing a portrait of a bison at top left, to Mr. and Mrs. Garretson. In part: "...The clocks have not arrived. I have wired the house twice and yet have not yet got any reply. They may turn up at any time...I am going away for the winter...". Boldly signed in pencil at conclusion, very good condition
