(1925 - 1981) Pioneer American pop singer, his "Rock Around the Clock" set the pace for the advent of rock and roll. D.S. "William J. Haley", 4pp, folio, [n.p.], Mar. 29, 1954, a contract between Decca Records and Bill Haley and His Comets for a period of one year agreeing to pay the group a 5% royalty for the sale of recordings made during the contract term. With an additional Photostat of an addendum to the original agreement as well as a T.L.S. to Haley from Decca Records, Dec. 3, 1954, exercising their option to extend the contract for an additional year. Haley and his band were important in introducing rock n' roll to a wider (white) audience after years of it being considered a Black cultural creation. When "Rock Around the Clock" appeared behind the opening credits of the 1955 film Blackboard Jungle, it soared to the top of the American Billboard charts for eight weeks, launching a musical revolution that opened the doors for the likes of Elvis Presley. Very good.
