Sale 38 Lot 1355

(1859 - 1930) English author and spiritualist remembered for his creation of the immortal Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson. Nice content manuscript L.S. 1p. 8vo., Chicago, May 22, 1922, to the Editor of the Herald-Examiner in Chicago. In part: "...Would you have the kindness to state that I have no connection at all with any Medium and that none is empowered to use my name...". Of course, Doyle's conviction in spirits, fairies, and occultism is well-known, and he counted amongst his friends none other than Harry Houdini, to whom he ascribed supernatural powers. Indeed, so strong was Doyle's interest in spiritualism that in 1925, he opened the Psychic Bookshop in London. Very light tape remains to verso, otherwise very good condition.
