ANDREW JOHNSONManuscript L.S. "Andrew Johnson" signed in pencil, 2pp. 8vo., Greenville, TN, Jan. 21, 1872, to Hon. Edgar Cowan. The text of the letter in ink reads, in part: "...Would you have any objection to the publication of your letter and my reply to it at this time...The Republicans seem ripe for one presidential term. I do not think they ought to be permitted to come forward and take an old Jackson proposition out of our hands and make capital out of it. I would be pleased to hear from you on the posture of our public affairs at present...". The word "Private" in pencil appears to be in Johnson's hand. Minor fold splits. Very good.
Estimate $ 500-700
