Sale 38 Lot 1637

AMERICAN BANDSTAND CONTRACTSRare collection of five original and rare American Bandstand AFTRA Engagement contracts, WFIL, 46th & Market Streets, Philadelphia, PA, each boldly signed by DICK CLARK as President of the Click Corporation, the owner of the Bandstand franchise. Each document is partly-printed, 1p. 4to., and bears file holes at left margin. Included in this lot are contracts signed by: BEN E. KING, whose appearance on American Bandstand, August 15, 1961 coincided with his number one smash hit "Spanish Harlem". King agrees to accept $155.00 as compensation, signing in fountain pen; CHUBBY CHECKER, Nov. 27, 1961, agreeing to appear on Bandstand's Thanksgiving Special, taking advantage of the re-release of "The Twist". Surprisingly, he opts to sign this contract "Chubby Checker" instead of Ernest Evans; NEIL SEDAKA, November 1, 1961, at the height of his career and at a time when his record label RCA was actually promoting him. Sedaka agrees to accept the sum of $155.00 for one segment with no rehearsals; ANNETTE FUNICELLO, in which the former Mouskateer agrees to appear on American Bandstand on November 1, 1961, where she performed "Tall Paul". Signed with gorgeous ornate signature, and FRANKIE AVALON, Sept. 18, 1961, a longtime favorite on American Bandstand and a personal friend of Dick Clark. Avalon received more money than other bandstand performers, that is $265.00 instead of the usual $155.00 fee. Clark justified the increase because of the success Avalon was having with motion pictures, specifically, the beach flicks. Signed in pencil. American Bandstand contracts rarely come to market due to Dick Clarks strict hold on everything connected with the franchise. Five piece, fine condition.
