ALFRED PLEASANTON(1824 - 1897) Union major general who led the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac. Fine content A. L. S. "A. Pleasanton", 1p. 8vo., in ink on United States Internal Revenue, Collector's Office stationery, New York, May 30, 1870 to artist C. H. Wildman on how to present his headquarters colors on the general's coat of arms, reading in part: "...In speaking to you about the flag of the cavalry corps to be placed on my coat of arms, I state it was white & red. I should have said it was red & white-the red uppermost. Will you please make the correction...". Mounting strip on verso, otherwise very good.
