Sale 38 Lot 1036

An interesting, certainly unique relic, Kesselring's personal pocket diary for 1946 during the time he was imprisoned for war crimes. It measures 4" x 6", held together by a central staple, with scattered pencil notes in Kesselring's hand throughout. Of note are the numerous visits made by Kesselring's wife Paulina, especially towards the end of the year, whose appearance is penciled in simply as "Liny". Additionally, Kesselring marks the dates of his visits to Nuremberg in order to testify at the trial of Hermann Goring on February 15, April 26, and May 14. Kesselring, ever the "Smiling General", pencils in a supremely optimistic note at the bottom of the December 31st entry, considering his predicament: "...Ende gut Alles gut!" [All's well that ends well!]. Age toned, foxing on verso cover, else very good .
