99TH PA. VOLS. COLOR BEARER RECALLS SERVICE AT GETTYSBURG Good content A.D.S., 2pp. legal folio, Philadelphia, [n.d., ca. 1880], by Amos S. Casey, Color Bearer of the 99th Penn. Vols. to Capt. Albert Magnin. In part: "...I was wounded & had left the field on the 2d days fight - some half hour previous - The Rebs were pressing our line pretty hard, driving our men before them...My brother [James Casey] was breaking the guns found on the field over rocks to keep them from falling in the hands of the enemy, he came upon one that was loaded and told the major he was going to have another shot. The Major told him to come on but he fired the gun. The Major heard him cry 'My God I am struck'...found he was struck in the left side passing through and shattering the back bone. They tried to save him but being pressed so closely he told them to put him down and save themselves. They did so and since we have never heard from him...he wore when killed one of the Kearney Medals on his breast presented for meritorious conduct on the battle field...". Very good.
Estimate $ 200-300
