Sale 38 Lot 397

(GEORGE E. PICKETT) (1825 - 1875) Confederate major general who formed the brigades for the ill-fated charge on the final day at Gettysburg. Pickett never forgave Lee for the destruction of his command, and died a bitter man. A good hardbound second edition copy of PICKETT AND HIS MEN, authored by the famous Confederate General's wife LASALLE CORBELL PICKETT, honoring her husband's men and their service. The inside front end page bears a finely penned presentation that reads "Edith L. Dowling compliments of Mrs. LaSalle Pickett". Published by The Foote & Davies Company, Atlanta, Ga., 1900 in light blue binding and totaling 439 pps., this comprehensive study of Pickett's command stands as a rare Confederate unit history and is a loving tribute to those who fought in the Army of Northern Virginia. Tight binding with very light wear affecting the spine and covers, else very good.
